چکیده

With an abundance of social network data being released, the need to protect sensitive information within these networks has become an important concern of data publishers. In this paper we focus on the popular notion of kanonymization as applied to node degrees in a social network. Given such a network N , the problem we study is to transform N to N , such that the degree of each node in N ′ is attained by at least k − 1 other nodes in N . Apart from previous work, we permit modifications to the node set, rather than the edge set, and this offers unique advantages with respect to the utility of the released anonymized network. We study both vertex-labeled and unlabeled graphs, since instances of each occur in real-world social networks. Under the constraint of minimum node additions, we show that on vertex-labeled graphs, the problem is NP-complete. For unlabeled graphs, we give an efficient (near-linear) algorithm and show that it gives solutions that are optimal modulo k, a guarantee that is novel in the literature. Additionally, we demonstrate empirically that commonlystudied structural properties of the network, such as clustering coefficient, are quite minorly distorted by the anonymization procedure.

The Complexity of Degree Anonymization by Graph Contractions

We study the computational complexity of k-anonymizing a given graph by as few graph contractions as possible. A graph is said to be k-anonymous if for every vertex in it, there are at least k − 1 other vertices with exactly the same degree. The general degree anonymization problem is motivated by applications in privacy-preserving data publishing, and was studied to some extent for various gra...

Structural Diversity for Privacy in Publishing Social Networks

How to protect individual privacy in public data is always a concern. For social networks, the challenge is that, the structure of the social network graph can be utilized to infer the private and sensitive information of users. The existing anonymity schemes mostly focus on the anonymity of vertex identities, such that a malicious attacker cannot associate an user with a specific vertex. In re...

Improved Upper and Lower Bound Heuristics for Degree Anonymization in Social Networks

Motivated by a strongly growing interest in anonymizing social network data, we investigate the NP-hard Degree Anonymization problem: given an undirected graph, the task is to add a minimum number of edges such that the graph becomes k-anonymous. That is, for each vertex there have to be at least k − 1 other vertices of exactly the same degree. The model of degree anonymization has been introdu...

A Brief Survey on Vertex and Label Anonymization Techniques of Online Social Network Data

With more and more people joining different online social networking (OSN) services every day, the archives of the OSN service providers are increasing drastically. This great amount of personal information is then shared by the service providers with different third parties, which raises a serious concern in preserving privacy of the individuals. For the last few years many work have been done...

Efficient Edge Anonymization of Large Social Graphs

Edges in a social graph may represent private information that needs to be protected. Due to their graph partition schemes, existing edge anonymization methods have several drawbacks, such as high utility loss and high computational overhead. In this paper, we present a new edge anonymization method, which partitions a graph using a new vertex equivalence relation called the neighbor-set equiva...
